Dear Belgian and Irish friends,
I recently took up my role as new Ambassador of Belgium to Ireland. My family and I are feeling very privileged to be here in Ireland, a longstanding and like-minded partner of Belgium.
It’s an honour to represent my country and promote its multiple qualities while strengthening the close ties with Ireland at the level of government as well as with the people. Just like Ireland, Belgium is deeply attached to democratic values, has a dynamic and outward-looking economy and is proud of its vibrant and intellectual landscape.
Belgian- Irish cooperation is dynamic, intense and creative. Within the European Union and the United Nations we are close partners working hand in hand for multilateralism. The visit of Deputy Prime Minister Wilmès this October underscored once again the importance we attach to that unique cooperation.
Economic and commercial relations between our countries are another element of key importance. Our excellent trade relations are still expanding as we are working together on a resilient post-Brexit and post-pandemic economy.
The Belgian-Irish relations go back as early as the 6th century. But our countries are not frozen in the past. They evolve and reinvent themselves in many areas: arts and culture, education, tourism, trade and diplomacy. I will strengthen and develop even further the very special relationship between our countries in all those fields.
My team and I are here to serve, advise and assist you. It is our duty to deliver high quality services to Belgians living in Ireland as well as to those who are visiting or staying on a temporary basis. I’m very pleased to be able to count on a talented and devoted team at the Embassy in order to provide such assistance.
With the help of my colleagues, I will do my utmost to accomplish, in the best possible way, this mission the next four years.
Ní neart go cur le chéile - Eendracht maakt macht - L’Union fait la force - Einigkeit macht stark
Take care and stay safe!
Karen Van Vlierberge
